    Abstract:
Interest in vegetarianism and veganism has attracted considerable attention, and with it the prevalence of vegetarian and vegan diets in children. In general, vegetarian diets are considered to be healthy and some benefits have been shown in adults, however, there are concerns about whether the dietary requirements during childhood and adolescence can be met for a proper growth and development. The objective of this systematic review was to assess the potential risks and benefits of a vegetarian or vegan diet on health status, growth and nutrient intakes in children and adolescents aged up to 18 years.
