    Abstract:
The Marathon des Sables is a race of ultra-resistance in the Sahara desert consisting of 250 km. It is considered one of the toughest races where athletes are subjected to extreme temperatures. In any sport, but especially in this type of competition, it should be given great importance to food and hydration before, during and after the race to avoid nutritional and physiological problems; as dehydration, hyponatremia, gastrointestinal problems and nutritional deficiencies. During each of these stages the diet should be healthy, balanced, varied and above all individualized, depending on the tolerance of each individual. It is very important to know the composition of macronutrients at each stage, as is also essential to consider micronutrients such as the presence of antioxidants, vitamins and fiber to combat oxidative stress the body is subjected. In conclusion, to get in the best optimal conditions, it is important to make an individualized study of each athlete and consider nutrition and hydration in the different stages of the competition.
