Modelling of pollutant dispersion in air

    Authors:  Mestre Curto, Naomi
    Abstract:
This work develops a computational tool that can rapidly predict the dispersion of pollutants in the air using the open source programming language, Python. This consists of the two-dimensional simulation of one or multiple pollutants with one or more emission sources. The emission can also be continuous or instantaneous. To obtain the wind velocity, a web scraping module is used that connects and retrieves data from the AEMET weather stations to extract the magnitude and direction of the wind velocity. Furthermore, it allows contaminants to be passive or reactive. The tool has been validated with data from the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on La Palma.
