Hydrodynamic analysis of a marine propeller using OpenFOAM

    Abstract:
    The hydrodynamic design of a marine propeller consists of an iterative process until the required operating values ​​are obtained. In one of the stages of this process, numerical simulation techniques (CFD) are used to obtain the operating curves of the propeller at various operating points. This phase requires hours of engineering to prepare the scenarios to be simulated and to analyze the results obtained. The objective of this work is to develop a hydrodynamic simulation case that is easy to adapt to any geometry or operating condition, in order to reduce process times.
