Comparative analysis of ricin detection and quantification methods: Current approaches and future prospects

    Abstract:
    Ricin is a phytotoxin found in castor bean seeds (Ricinus communis L) and has high potential as a biological weapon. Early detection of ricin is crucial to address possible emergency situations due to ricin poisoning or environmental contamination. In this work, an exhaustive bibliographic review of the ricin detection and quantification methods currently available is presented, analyzing and comparing the advantages and limitations of each one. In conclusion, it can be inferred that there are limitations and aspects to improve in current methods, so continued research is crucial.
