    Abstract:
The objective of this review was to explore the association between the intestinal microbiota and obesity and to investigate the role of inulin in the treatment of this disease. People with obesity have shown alterations in the composition of the intestinal microbiota, which is known as dysbiosis. As a consequence, the normal functions of the microbiota are altered and the host's metabolism could function incorrectly. Inulin is a polysaccharide that can be fermented by commensal bacteria and, at the same time, can modulate the composition of the intestinal microbiota. This review has shown that inulin supplementation increases the abundance of Bifidobacterium in subjects with obesity.
