Title in different languages: Assessing the Impact of Cross-Linguistic Influence on the Writing of Spanish Secondary School EFL Students
Abstract: This study was designed to investigate the impact of cross-linguistic influence (CLI) on the writing of Spanish EFL students. The sample consisted of 43 3rd ESO students in a semi-private Catalonian school in Tarragona. Data collection tools included two instruments. A pre-questionnaire and a writing task in which participants translated 11 sentences from Spanish into English and answered 3 short questions. The data were analyzed via a Paired Samples T-Test and a One-Way ANOVA in JASP. The results demonstrate that CLI is an important aspect in second language acquisition and implies that it should not be ignored by language practitioners.
