Abstract: Through this study, the importance and relevance of local culture regarding culture teaching in the ELT field will be addressed. Usually in ELT and ESL contexts, most of the target culture either in classroom materials such as textbooks or activities such as listening or speaking is Western Culture, more precisely the British or American, (The United States). However, is it necessary for the target culture to repose on one of these English-speaking countries or the study may focus on a specific wanted or preferred target that could be familiar and closer to both educators and students. This is when local culture teaching in ELT makes sense, it avoids many barriers or inconveniences that could impose the usual option such as religious, preferences, availability, understandability and familiarity. Meanwhile, this study also searches to check how the topic of Culture isn’t studied enough or minimally in the core of ELT. Additionally, studying local culture is potentially an option to foster motivation as a motivated learning process in their students in order to acquire their L2 more interestingly and dynamically. This is how we have tested our theory, presenting to a Spanish class of high school students both cultures so they are able and willing to compare, choose, and test how culture-themed classes are motivation triggering as more necessary in their classroom context. The results have shown that there isn’t usually one culture wanted to be studied above another but there is a major willingness to have Culture-related classes instead of Grammar-centered ones. This issue needs further investigation in academic systems contrasting the Spanish conventional language teaching system on middle and high school levels. A través d'aquest estudi, s'abordarà la importància i rellevància de la cultura local respecte a l'ensenyament de la cultura en l'àmbit ELT. Habitualment en contextos ELT i ESL, la major part de la cultura objectiu ja sigui en materials d'aula com llibres de text o activitats com escoltar o parlar és Western Culture, més precisament el britànic o l'americà, (The United States). No obstant això, és necessari que la cultura objectiu es reposi en un d'aquests països de parla anglesa o que l'estudi pugui centrar-se en un objectiu específic desitjat o preferit que pugui ser familiar i més proper tant als educadors com als estudiants. És aquí quan l'ensenyament de la cultura local en ELT té sentit, evita moltes barreres o inconvenients que podrien imposar l'opció habitual com la religiosa, les preferències, la disponibilitat, l'entenedor i la familiaritat. Mentrestant, aquest estudi també busca comprovar com el tema de Cultura no s'estudia prou o mínimament en el nucli d'ELT. A més, estudiar cultura local és potencialment una opció per fomentar la motivació com a procés d'aprenentatge motivat en els seus estudiants per tal d'adquirir el seu L2 de manera més interessant i dinàmica. Així és com hem provat la nostra teoria, presentant a una classe espanyola d'estudiants de secundària totes dues cultures perquè siguin capaços i disposats a comparar, triar i provar com les classes de temàtica cultural són desencadenants de motivació com més necessàries en el seu context d'aula. Els resultats han demostrat que no sol haver-hi una cultura que es vulgui estudiar per sobre d'una altra, però hi ha una gran voluntat de tenir classes relacionades amb la cultura en lloc de les centrades en la gramàtica. Aquesta qüestió requereix una investigació més profunda en els sistemes acadèmics que contrasten el sistema d'ensenyament de la llengua convencional espanyola a nivell de secundària i batxillerat.
