    Abstract:
Wrong hand hygiene is one of the most prevailing factors for the production of healthcare related infections. An adequate level of knowledge about hand hygiene is the first step to raise awareness of the responsibility of the professionals, as well as promoting its adherence. In the following study the level of knowledge of health-care workers from hospitalization areas at Hospital Universitario Joan XXIII has been analyzed, using the Hand Hygiene Knowledge Questionnaire for Health-Care Workers from the World Health Organization. The obtained results show that health-care workers do not have a satisfactory level of knowledge, therefore it is recommended to apply measures to correct not only a correct handwashing, but also the decrease in infections related to health care, which has favorable repercussions in the clinical status of the patients, as well as a reduction in health care expenses.
