    Abstract:
Smoke is the leading cause of fire-related deaths. 75% of fire deaths occur from inhalation of smoke, not from fire or burns. So that, it is of great importance to perform a control of these smokes and combustion gases through the different Temperature Control and Smoke Evacuation Systems (SCTEH); which include two systems that complement each other: natural smoke exhaust ventilators and smoke barriers. The introduction of a smoke barrier, allows to increase the dimensions of the smoke tank, causing a reduction in the number of natural smoke exhaust ventilators needed to evacuate the same amount of smoke, with possible economic consequences. The project analyses the conditions under which it is economically viable to install smoke barriers, with the help of natural smoke exhaust ventilators, to carry out the evacuation of the smokes correctly; and in which cases it is better only to use natural smoke exhaust ventilators to evacuate the same amount of smoke. Different case studies of SCTEH have been simulated, analysing the viability of smoke barriers; concluding with the high reduction of natural smoke exhaust ventilators that can be achieved in certain circumstances, as is the case of large warehouses with high fire loads.
