Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to analyze a set of characteristics of eight Roman arches of a single bay built in the Augustan period. From a systematized list that includes, among others, the formal, constructive, decorative typologies, iconographic programs, content of the dedications, relations with the urban or geographical environment, chronology and its purpose, the author wants to reveal the "architectonic language of each arch", from the news published by the various researchers who have studied the Roman arches both in a generic way, as particularly, and of the own observations made in situ of the selected monuments. The conclusions that are derived will help the author, in the future, to be able to propose a specific reflection applied to one of the specific cases of the study.
