    Abstract:
Increasingly is the use of architecture as a place marketing instrument to achieve effects of global visibility, especially in urban regeneration projects (Plaza et al. 2010). The effort here collects theories and works, both for and against, urbanization processes involving the use of culture as a tourism product and the cultural facilities as engines of economic development strategy. The initiative of this project was born with the need to know the characteristics of success of one of the most important museums that have followed this model of development, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, and denote the feasibility of implementing these strategies, for urban development and tourism evolution processes, involving culture in the Mexican tourist destination corresponding to the Metropolitan Area of Puerto Vallarta-Banderas Bay.
