Abstract: Having a child is a happy event in which there are shared expectations within the couple and family. Even though, the result isn’t always what it was once expected because this exciting event can sometimes turn into loss. This is the case of perinatal death, which ranges from 22 weeks of gestation until 28 days after birth. In Spain, several parent associations have been created from families that have undergone this process of perinatal loss, being Umamanita the reference in research and scientific publications. La Guía Umamanita by Umamanita and La Liga de la Leche was published in 2009 and aims to be an information and support guide for both families and professionals. Due to the fact that it has been 10 years since the publication of this guide, there is a need for information extension and data update in order to make an adapted and updated guide. The purpose of this research design is to understand the feelings and needs of families and professionals who experience a perinatal loss in order to establish evidence-based protocols for action. The data-collection instruments consist of discussion groups with nursing professionals from the different hospitals of reference in Catalonia and families that have undergone this process of perinatal loss, also, we will do semi-structured interviews with the participants of discussion groups: professionals and families. This study will provide knowledge about the feelings, concerns, needs and experiences of families and professionals who have had to experience a situation of perinatal loss.
