Resumen:The residential foster care system and the care provided to children and adolescents have undergone various modifications and adaptations over time, aligning with changes in sociopolitical and cultural contexts. Currently, in Spain, there are 22 childhood protection laws (3 at the state level and 19 at the regional level) that regulate the organizational and legal framework to ensure the protection of minors' rights. This research, through a scoping review, aims to analyze, on one hand, how residential foster care is organized across the different autonomous communities, and on the other, how the regulatory framework is structured concerning leadership competencies, professional profiles, and the practices of those involved in socio-educational and psychosocial interventions for the protection of children's rights. The findings highlight the need to establish standardized regulatory criteria across all autonomous communities to ensure comprehensive protection for children and adolescents at the national level. Additionally, the importance of having a standardized information system that measures the impact of the measures adopted in the child protection system is emphasized. The results also reveal a lack of uniformity in professional profiles and roles, as well as the need to discuss new models of comprehensive care that focus on improving the quality of life and promoting social justice for children and adolescents in protective care in Spain.
