Abstract: Through texts and images, this paper analyses the impact of the First World War on, and the positions defended by, one of the greatest magazines in Spain at the time, La Esfera: Ilustración Mundial (Madrid, 1914- 1931). This article is divided into three sections: 1) a brief introduction to the magazine, 2) an approach to its war commentators, in order to ascertain whether the magazinecan be considered a pro-Allied or a Germanophilic propaganda tool; and 3) an approximation of how the beginning of the War was covered using many illustrations and photographs that appeared in the weekly magazine, especially during the first months of the conflict.
