Visibilidad de alfabetización en salud en los medios de comunicación: El caso portugués

    Abstract:
    Health Literacy is changing the way that people and government organs perceive and manage health. The media appear as one of the strategic elements for development of this type of literacy. The objective of this paper is to know the level of visibility of the information that foments health literacy in the different media in Portugal. 947 news articles were analyzed. The results show that the information to encourage health literacy has low media visibility in the Portugal and reveal that issues related to public health and disease treatments have more coverage than issues associated with the prevention of health risks or the particular management of a healthy life.
