    Abstract:
Introduction: Citizen participation is essential for a democratic and equitable society. In Chile, although the importance of promoting it is recognized, the country faces a deep participation crisis. Social work plays a crucial role in strengthening individual and collective capacities for active citizenship. This study examines the role of Labor Social in promoting citizen participation in Chile, questioning the current local leadership and the limited forms of participation that are proposed both locally and nationally. Methodology: The research was based on a qualitative and ethnographic approach, conducting 15 in-depth interviews with social workers. Results: At the local level, special opportunities are identified to strengthen citizen participation. Discussions:  Although there is a relative lack of studies on the development of these topics, this research proposes, based on what exists, a starting point for the implementation of renewed participation methods. Conclusions: The study suggests two strategic methodologies to improve participation and, therefore, democracy: municipal associativism and social comptrollership, both of which seek to revitalize citizen participation and promote greater equity and the enhancement of democracy in Chilean society.
