808 nm near infrared excited Ho3+ and Tm3+ based metal-organic frameworks for luminescence thermometry and photothermal conversion

    Abstract:
    Lanthanide based metal-organic frameworks are emerging as a class of materials with multiple applications. This is due to the combination of the unique optical properties of lanthanide ions and the extra functionalities added by the metal-organic frameworks. Nevertheless, up to now, these properties have not been explored to their full potential. In this work, we prove, for the first time, that Ho3+,Tm3+ based 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid metal-organic frameworks can be applied as luminescent thermometers and also as photothermal agents, using their upconversion properties after excitation at 808 nm.
