In the area of gender policies of the Generalitat de Catalunya, one of the first and most important laws is the one that addresses gender violence. This paper presents and analyses Law 5/2008, of 24 April, on the right of women to eradicate gender-based violence, and stresses the novelties introduced by Law 17/2020, of 22 December. It sets out the international and national legal framework for the fight against gender violence, and places gender policies within the Catalan Statute.
