Resum:
The risks associated with the caring professions are usually studied in a biased manner. They are usually focused on the existence of difficulties, on how professionals adapt themselves (or not) to nonspecific work environment stressors. Several international studies indicate that, at a time when the nursing care is more requested and necessary, we do not count with an enough number of professionals. This lack of personnel is mainly due to turnover or abandonment either during the formative stage or during the stage of professional development. Anyway, the reality is that we have a growing need of care burden in a context with less staff and fewer health resources. From a proactive and positive approach, we try to identify structural and contextual similarities and differences among nursing students and nurses. Professionalization is a process and we propose a psychosocial intervention program covering all phases: before admission (selection of the studies), during the university stage (theoretical and practical), and during the step of professional development within the healthcare environment. By promoting psychological well-being and quality of working life, we favor people, their context and the quality of the care.
