This thesis aims to analyse the effects of acupuncture in people affected by chronic widespread pain (CWP). This is a prospective controlled study. A total of 92 participants were randomly assigned to two groups: the Intervention group, which received an acupuncture treatment; and the Control group, who received sham acupuncture. The treatments have been customized and the treatment criteria are based on the use of Yuan and Luo points. The results were evaluated using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQR), the Medical Questionnaire Sleep Scale (MOSS) and the Patient Global Impression of Improvement Scale (PGI-I). The results were analysed in the 1st, 4th and 8th weeks from the start of treatment. The study has been carried out in accordance with STRICTA guidelines, which establish the correct way to proceed in the conduct of scientific studies in the field of acupuncture. The results obtained conclude that acupuncture is able to decrease pain, disability and sleep disturbances in people with CWP.
