Introduction. The knee osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint pathology characterized by a process of cartilage deterioration. In knee osteoarthritis there is a decrease of the extensor and flexor muscular strength musculature in a knee with pain. Isokinetic dynamometers allow an objective, accurate and reliable evaluation of the muscular strength of the knee. Objectives. To evaluate the isokinetic parameters of muscle strength of Peak Torque (PT), Power (P), Total Work (TT) at different angular velocities, in flexion and extension between healthy knee and knee with pain. To compare the balance of flexor and extensor muscles of a knee with mild pain and to determine the influence of age and index body mass on each endpoint Material and method. Descriptive cross-sectional study of the baseline characteristics of patients with a mild pain knee. 82 patients were enrolled who met the inclusion criteria. The main variables of the study were PT, P and TT at velocities of 180º / s and 240º / s for flexion and extension movements of the knee joint. An isokinetic dynamometer Biodex System 4 Pro (Biodex Medical Systems, New York, USA) has been used. Results. The groups <50 years old men and women both in flexion and extension and also the obese group in men and women but only in extension at the speed of 180º / s are the most affected in mild pain knee processes. Conclusions. TT and P, will serve to quantify objectively the loss of muscle strength and will be the basis for establishing an early physiotherapy protocols to stop the progression of the loss and therefore the knee osteoarthritis.
