    The knowledge society, together with Information and Communication Technologies, have generated a change in the educational paradigm. The difficulty for the nurses to reconcile studies, work and family is an obstacle to continuing education. This fact can affect how students which are close to finish their studies and qualified professionals are attracted to online training. This paper aims to know the affinity of students and the nursing professionals of Catalonia for postgraduate online teaching studies. For this purpose, three specific challenges are posed: to identify the socio-demographic profile of professionals and students in their last year of the degree in nursing in Catalonia; to determine the difficulties for professionals to receive classroom training; and to describe the attitudes of professionals and students towards online learning. A descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative study was designed. There are two big blocks: 1) we review the literature related to online nursing training. The current situation in different countries is included through the exploration of different university masters in nursing. 2) an ad hoc survey is produced and distributed online to qualified professionals and students in their fourth year of the grade in nursing. The participation of Catalan nurses is 4.0%, and that of students of 19.0%. Of the total number of participants, 67.1% were professionals and 32.9% were students. 47.2% of the professionals are not currently studying, although 97.2% of them believe that continuing education is necessary. 94.3% believe that online training is more accessible, and 72.0% consider that it does not present significant differences with classroom training. More than 80% of the respondents stated that online training facilitates the choice of time and place of study. 62.8% of nursing professionals prefer online education. This work is a starting point for future research related on the online training offered after obtaining the degree in nursing.
