    Resum:
Introduction: Fibromyalgia (FM) is a disease characterized by chronic pain that harms the people’s quality of life. Objectives: To compare the effectiveness of multidisciplinary treatment (MT) with the effectiveness of activities that are carried out in association with FM patients and to analyse the meaning of FM from a female gender perspective. Methodology: The intervention group (n = 23) underwent an MT of 10 sessions and the control group (n = 23) carried out the association activities of FM patients. The effectiveness of these actions was compared using the questionnaire on the impact of FM-FIQ. The data obtained were analysed using U-Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxones and unit and multivariable logistic regression, and the variables associated with the non-FIQ improvement were studied. In addition, a qualitative study was carried out using semi-structured biographical interviews and the categories that this methodological approach sought to analyse were accessed by the analysis of narratives. Results: there are no significant differences in the post-intervention FIQ of the two groups, but all of them significantly improved. We detected variables associated with non-FIQ improvement (educational level and age). The analysis of the stories shows the discomfort that women refer to when they are unable to comply with gender roles and patriarchal norms. This situation promotes a loss of identity and, in an attempt to reverse this situation, leads to the self-punishment and self-harm that cause the psychic and physical manifestations of FM appear. Conclusions: It is important to study the sociodemographic variables of the participants because these condition the effectiveness of MT. The stories emphasize the importance of debating female models and gender roles and the need to use biopsychosocial models that can situate individual experience with and within the disease
