    Introduction: Patient safety seeks to minimize risks associated with healthcare, requiring current information based on high-quality evidence and an assessment of associated damages. It is urgent to include patient safety training in higher education programs. Objectives: To map the evidence on training programs in patient safety; adapt and validate tools like the Tool Kit-SText for health professionals in Portugal, and identify factors influencing patient safety literacy. Methods: A literature review was conducted, along with the adaptation and validation of questionnaires, and a quantitative study to assess patient safety literacy. Results: Training programs vary in content and approach but emphasize evidence-based practices and risk management. Despite efforts, significant gaps in patient safety literacy still exist. Conclusion: The research highlights the need for specific programs that improve patient safety literacy, essential for enhancing risk management and the quality of healthcare services.
