Abstract:
This study examined in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders, the relation of executive functions variables, clinical course and symptom profile with four functional areas: quality of life, social functioning, coping with stress and insight, health beliefs and attitudes toward treatment. The results indicate that the intensity of depressive symptoms is central to estimate the deficit in the functioning and the subjective perception of wellbeing. Executive functions performance is negatively affected by a worse clinical course and greater intensity of depressive symptoms. Antipsychotics combined with benzodiazepines improved social performance, while negative symptom adversely affects it. Executive functions deficits and depressive symptoms were associated with worse personal coping, less insight, beliefs of helplessness and perception of uncontrollability related to health.
