    Abstract:
The incidence of metabolic syndrome increases in developed countries. Oxidative stress has a potential role in the pathology of metabolic syndrome. It mediates various risk factors such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, obesity and insulin resistance. Polyunsaturated fatty acids n-3 (PUFA n3) reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease in part by improving the lipid profile, hypertension, oxidative stress and inflammation. We conducted a nutritional study in Wistar rats (controls) and SHROB rats (model of metabolic syndrome). For three months were administered five different treatments: three with different proportions of PUFA n3, EPA: DHA (1:1, 2:1 and 1:2), and two controls soy and flax. Different parameters were studied as body weight, glucose, blood pressure, insulin and HOMA index. We analyzed the lipid profile, cardiovascular risk biomarkers, oxidative stress and an analysis of histological damage. We want demonstrate beneficial effects of PUFA n3, clarifying turn which of the three ratios EPA: DHA is the most suitable in improving the studied parameters.
