    Abstract:
Dermoscopy is a noninvasive diagnostic technique which allows us by an amplification and illumination system, to observe structures of the epidermis and dermis, that are not visible to the naked eye. The first studies on dermoscopy were focused on melanocytic lesions, mainly on the diagnosis of melanoma. Afterwards, there has been an increasing use of this technique and nowadays it is essential in the clinical practise. The main objective of this thesis is to describe dermoscopic structures and patterns of different non melanocytic skin lesions included in the differential diagnosis of melanoma and non melanoma skin cancer, like apocrine hidrocystomas, tumours arising in naevus sebaceous and nodular hidradenomas. This thesis has been elaborated in order to be presented as a compendium of three articles. We have carried out three multicenter studies in different hospitals from different countries. Dermoscopic images of each lesion were obtained using digital dermoscopy equipment (DermLite Foto equipment; 3Gen, LLC, Dana Point, CA, USA or Dermaphot equipment; Heine Optotechnik, Herrsching, Germany) at 20 to 50 fold magnification. All the lesions have been evaluated by two experts in dermoscopy. Although dermoscopy helps us to visualize dermoscopic structures and patterns, thus improving the diagnosis of many non melanocytic skin lesions, like apocrine hidrocystomas, tumours arising in naevus sebaceous and nodular hidradenomas, we recommend the histological study of all these lesions, because both clinical and dermoscopically they can simulate other malignant skin tumours like melanoma and basal cell carcinoma.
