    Abstract:
Diffuse diabetic macular edema (EMDD) is the leading cause of loss of vision in diabetic patients. Ranibizumab (RBZ) is the only drug with an anti-VEGF action that is a currently accepted treatment for EMDD. The present study is prospective and interventional, conducted on a sample of 34 eyes of 22 type-2 diabetes patients who have non-ischemic EMDD. The eyes included in the study were treated with RBZ for a period of one year, following a Pro Re Nata treatment schedule. Study conclusions: 1. Baseline results: Regarding the mean density of response (dR) in the two central rings, the level of integrity of the IS / OS and ELM lines is an indirect sign of an electrophysiological profile,. Eyes with advanced retinopathy have a more depressed response (dR) in the two central rings with an elongation of latency in R1. Eyes that have some hard exudates in the macula, have a greater dR in the central ring. The quantity of liquid measured in the foveola or the macula area is not related to the initial electrophysiological profile in EMDD eyes. 2 Regarding the results at the end of the study: The mean dR in R1 after treatment with ranibizumab is conditioned by the initial integrity of IS / OS and ELM lines objectified in the eyes with EMDD. Eyes with better visual acuity have a better prognosis when electrophysiological dR potential increases in R1. The eyes that are able to improve the integrity of the ELM at 12 months, after applying ranibizumab therapy, increased the mean dR in R1. Eyes with cystic, serous and spongiform EMDD, improve their respective dRs at R1.
