Abstract:
The doctoral thesis is titled 'Mercedes Sanz-Bachiller, approach to her political biography'. First, her political biography is developed during the Civil War and, especially, since the death of her first husband, Onésimo Redondo Ortega, on July 24, 1936. Thus, it is analyzed her appointment at the front of the provincial headquarters of the Women's Section of Valladolid, in August of that same year and, with the collaboration of Javier Martínez de Bedoya, the foundation and development of Auxilio de Invierno, later Auxilio Social, in October. This first stage closes with the resignation of Mercedes Sanz-Bachiller to the front of Auxilio Social in April of 1940. It is also treated her appointment and participation as adviser of the National Council of FET and of the JONS (1937-1942). The most extensive and unknown part of her political biography is developed here between 1941 and 1979. Thus, her career as the National Head of the Union Social Welfare Work (1941-1974) and in her capacity as counselor of the National Institute Of Forecast (1941-1979). During these years, Mercedes Sanz-Bachiller deals with the implementation of social insurance in the countryside through the correspondence of the Union Social Welfare Work, the development of mutual societies, and the transition from a social forecasting system to a social security system.As well as relations with the main authorities and hierarchies of FET and JONS. All this while attending the years in which she served as procurator in the Cortes of the regime (1943-1967) and in which she belonged to the Spanish Group of the Interparliamentary Union (1958-1967), and intervened in the study of the project of Law on 'Political, Professional and Labour Rights of Women', in 1961, and in which it dealt about the 'Special Agricultural Social Security Regime', in 1966.
