Abstract:
Philatelic cinderella stamps as a source of historiographic and artistic information
The aim of this thesis is to explain the purpose and use of the philatelic cinderella stamps, the past and present issues of this philatelic poster stamp, as well as its origin and the different existing types.
The relationship of cinderella stamps with art in each historical moment is hereby explored, both from a conceptual point of view and with relation to painters, poster designers, and photographers. Cinderella stamps can be considered as a cultural source of information and can be studied to confirm situations or historical facts.
The poster stamp is an ephemeral, one-purpose object of a limited duration. For this reason no much importance is attributed to it and quite a lot have disappeared. It is the 'cinderella' of philatelia, as is named in English.
The difficulties found in research and bibliography are hereby explained. Due to some specific circumstances, in some cases it was difficult to find out who the cinderella stamp commissioner or designer were, which complicated the study and analysis. Regulations, circulation and current state are duly presented and different examples are included.
The research sources used for this work are duly cited, namely: philatelic societies publications; period newspapers and magazines; museums, libraries and post offices archives, and private collections. Eventually, some significant cases are presented, which reflect the above mentioned issues.
