    Abstract:
In the current context of increasing demand for asylum and refuge in Europe, social mentoring is gaining acceptance as a community intervention method. The aim of this method, which involves providing mentors to accompany children and adolescents at risk of exclusion, is to promote the positive development of minors by creating relationships based on bonds of trust. In the United States, mentoring programmes have been around for a hundred years. However, meta-analyses that evaluated the impact of such programmes report that these initiatives tend to achieve modest progress in terms of outcomes for the children concerned. This paper presents an analysis the Nightingale community programme to determine whether mentoring really does make a difference to the lives of immigrant minors who are adapting to their new social reality. The study looks at the problems and challenges faced by mentoring programmes and present several proposals intended to overcome them. Finally, to improve the procedures in place to ensure the quality and supervision of mentor-mentee relationships, the study also presents the experience of implementation a digital application to provide real-time information about key events that have occurred to pairs taking part in a formal mentoring programme. This technological innovation represents fundamental progress for evaluating the quality of social support provided to minors faced with adversity.
