Abstract:
In our country, literary walking tours are currently being used to consolidate literature as a part of our cultural heritage. However, although these tours are well known and dynamic, and there is a great deal of theoretical literature on some of their fundamental features, little work has been done on the walking tours on offer in the Catalan-speaking territories, the process of cultural consolidation and the usefulness of this approach to literature. This work consists of three sections. The first discusses cultural and literary heritage as the framework in which the contemporary tools for consolidating literature as a cultural asset are inscribed; it lists them, focuses on literary walking tours, gives examples from a particular geographical area and analyses the legislation on literary heritage. The second gives an overview of the significance of the gaze, the rhythm of the walk, the association with hiking, sightseeing and other precedents in general and here in Catalonia. It also describes the features of a literary walking tour by analysing existing routes in Catalan-speaking territories and, at the same time, reporting the results of this analysis as indicators on which to base proposals for new routes. The third section is a case study of the pictorial-literary walking tour dedicated to the poet, memorialist, critic and translator Marià Manent Cisa (Barcelona, 1898-1988) and the landscape painter Joaquim Mir Trinxet (Barcelona, 1873-1940) in L’Aleixar and Maspujols, two small Catalan towns in the Camp de Tarragona where both authors spent significant amounts of time during their period of artistic production and where the route represents the only product for tourists in an area otherwise barren of this type of initiative. It discusses the process of consolidating their work as a part of cultural heritage and the assets generated.
