Abstract:
Since 2015, a significant flow of Venezuelans has migrated to Ecuador in the midst of a double crisis: the one of the country of origin, whose socioeconomic indicators reflect a strong recession; and, the one existing at destination, where strong deficiencies in social, health or educational issues are prevalent. This research aims to contribute to the literature on migratory movements of the Global South by studying how Venezuelan migrants navigate the conditions of crisis and the restrictive policies of the State through solidarity and social, cultural and economic reciprocity. A qualitative methodology was used. Thirty interviews were conducted using a snow ball sampling strategy. Content analysis and a review of secondary data were also employed. The thesis consists of eight chapters. The first two correspond to the theoretical framework and the contextualization of the research. Chapter III studies the policies implemented by the Ecuadorian State in terms of human mobility. Chapter IV analyzes how practices of transnational solidarity can be developed through digital media Chapter V describes solidarity proceses within transnational families. Chapter VI delves into identity heterogeneity within the migrant population and its influence on solidarity processes. Chapter VII studies the insertion of migrants in the labor market, illustrating how phenomen such as discrimination and sexism have a negative impact on solidarity. Finally, chapter VIII analyzes the role of non-governmental organizations within migratory dynamics and the construction of solidarity.
