    Abstract:
This thesis project approaches the music documentary using two research methods: on the one hand, through a quantitative study in which, starting from the configuration of a historical database of music documentaries, we analyse what has been and what is the female presence as director and protagonist in the music documentary and how it has evolved over the years; and, on the other hand, through qualitative research, which combines film analysis with semi-structured interviews, we analyse five music documentaries, all directed by and starred women. With diverse approaches and focused on musical practices and very distant contexts, these works show how the music documentary can be understood as a depatriarchalising cultural tool that, from a gender perspective, places the female figure at the centre of the stories, broadens the range of speeches and topics covered, allows the weaving of feminist musical and audiovisual genealogies, and serves to vindicate their artistic work, both in front of and behind the camera.
