Novel Supramolecular Gold(I)-Cavitand Catyalysts and Approach to the Total Synthesis of Monomarginine

    Abstract:
    Over the past two decades, gold(I)-catalyzed transformations have emerged as powerful tools for constructing molecular complexity. This Doctoral Thesis builds on these advancements, focusing on asymmetric gold(I) catalysis, the development of novel gold(I) catalysts, and innovative synthetic strategies targeting natural products. A central theme is the design of bulky cavitand ligands, which feature a cavity pocket that shapes reaction outcomes and enhances selectivity. Inspired by the success of a previously developed gold(I)-cavitand family, this research explores the synthesis and applications of a new family of gold(I)-cavitand complexes, incorporating structural modifications to broaden their applicability across diverse reactions. In parallel, the thesis investigates the structure elucidation and total synthesis of monomarginine, a natural product derived from Monocarpia marginalis. The structure of this molecule was reassigned, and various synthetic strategies were pursued to achieve its total synthesis. By integrating catalyst design, reaction development, and natural product synthesis, this work advances the understanding and application of gold(I)-catalyzed transformations, contributing significantly to the field of modern synthetic chemistry.
