Abstract:
Todo ello ha permitido no solo definir las características del dolium en el nordeste peninsular, sino también comprender su importancia para el estudio del mundo rural, sobre todo en relación con la viticultura. This thesis focuses on the characterisation of the dolium in Roman times in north-eastern Hispania Citerior. It constitutes the first research aimed at this type of vessel in the Hispanic territory, with the exception of some regional studies. Given the absence of previous exhaustive analyses, it was deemed necessary to carry out a detailed study of the container from its appearance until its eventual disuse, more specifically between the 2nd century BC and the 6th century AD. The research focused on the dolium in its productive context, which allowed for an analysis of the productive spaces in which it was integrated. In total, the storage spaces of 88 settlements were examined, from which it was possible to determine the morphological characteristics of the dolium, as well as its capacities. In this regard, the ceramological study was complemented with photogrammetric techniques to obtain precise drawings of the vessels, which made it possible to establish a new typology. The study of the sites enabled the identification of the characteristics of the spaces where dolia were used, as well as their situation within the productive structures.
