    Abstract:
Invasive fungal infections have emerged as a leading cause of death in immunocompromissed patients. The increased incidence of invasive fungal infections in these patient populations is a particularly serious problem because some of these pathogens are often resistant to most of the antifungal treatment. Although Aspergillus spp. is among the most common cause of invasive mycoses in such patients, there is evidence that the incidence of infectious diseases caused by other genera such us Rhizopus, Scedosporium and Paecilomyces, have risen significantly over the past decade. Optimal management of these infections has not been defined and the number of in vitro and in vivo studies about the efficacy of new antifungal treatment against them is very scarce. Therefore, the main objective of this thesis is to contribute to the development of new experimental treatment against invasive infections caused by emerging opportunistic filamentous fungi.
