    Resumen:
Emotional distress (depressive / anxious) is common in adolescence and its prevalence increases in adult youth. Nevertheless, the majority of young people with discomforts of this type do not seek professional help, considering this phenomenon a priority issue in health research due to the repercussions that may occur in their present and future well-being. The analysis of itineraries of attention followed by adolescents and young people to deal with emotional distress talks about the importance of lay explanatory models, because the diversity of perceptions, representations and experiences that they handle around the emotional distress influences the choices that they do throughout their 'vital career' in order to find a solution to their emotional problems; occurring variations in the articulations of the different modes and care systems chosen and implemented. This thesis investigates the process of health / illness / care of adolescents and young people, based on a mixed methodology of participative research-action, and directs its analytical perspective, in addition to the non-help-seeking, to the process of self-attention. Letting us know, from the analysis of the practices and the explanatory models, the ways in which the young people understand and attend their emotional distress, including within the map of action the articulation of the different forms of attention generated by this population. Implement this line of work from the participative research-action allows that adolescents and young people get integrated into the project as a proactive and involved part of the process. Moreover this approach let us to obtain academic theoretical results as well as construct eminently practical material resulted from the collaborative and participative work carried out with the informants (adolescents, young people and mental health professionals).
