La apicultura en la provincia de Guadalajara: del antiguo régimen a la modernidad

The present investigation pursues the confirmation of the national beekeeping leadership in the province of Guadalajara of the Old Regime to the 20th century. To this end, we go back to historical sources of the seventeenth century and fundamentally to the Cadastre of Ensenada and the data working in the National Institute of Statistics in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. We proceed to establish, on the basis of the Cadastre, the productivity of the eighteenth century in the province and regions of Guadalajara through a scrutiny of municipalities, nuclei and depopulated: number of hives, honey, wax, swarms. Next we detail the beekeeping trades: waxworker, confectioner, 'alojero' and licor seller, following the same procedure. And lastly we quantify the health professions and their geographic location. The mathematical-statistical treatment of the productivity data derived from the INE allows us to monitor the productivity de Guadalajara until 1966, and the provinces that have exercised the leadership in the sector in the reference period. The findings of the research are summarized in two. The first confirms the leadership of Guadalajara in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The second affirms the position of Guadalajara in the group of Spanish provinces that lead the production in the sector. Guadalajara has integrated the group of eleven pioneer provinces in beekeeping productivity in the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
