Poblaciones móviles y anclajes en la ciudad turística: construcción de una cotidianidad cosmopolita en el Raval de Barcelona

Resumen:
The aim of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of the tourist phenomenon in the framework of the contemporary city. In particular, the analysis focuses on the case of Barcelona and, specially, on the more specific case of el Raval. Firstly, the case study of the Raval has allowed to analyse the relationship between new practices and new approaches to the tourist experience, on the one hand, and the global 'discourses' that support the process of transformation of the urban landscape. Secondly, an analytical framework and a conceptual map are defined for ordering the dynamic and complex social morphology of a tourist area such as the Raval. A new taxonomy of the different urban populations is offered and the importance of the social dynamics between 'intermediate' populations in the construction of a 'cosmopolitan' landscape of consumption is highlighted. In particular, the analysis focuses on the central figure of ‘post-bohemian'. Thirdly, the main contributions of an extensive research on the phenomenon of tourist hospitality in housing are included. More specifically, it offers the results and considerations related to the analysis of two digital platforms such as HomeExchange.com and Airbnb Particular attention is here given to the analysis of the various spatial logics of development in the destination. Finally, the analysis focuses on the practice of 'home sharing', in the neighbourhood of el Raval, with particular attention to the hosts socio-cultural profile and to their relation with the gentrifying dynamics in the area.
