    Resumen:
Numerical simulation is an essential tool for modeling the mechanical behavior of the abdominal wall with a non-invasive approach. The use of mathematical model makes it possible to comprehend the stress response of different tissues and muscles in order to predict the potential occurrence of hernias or tissue rupture. More specifically, the effects of incisions caused by ostomies and laparoscopic interventions are studied based on a geometric model of the abdominal wall. Thanks to numerous virtual simulations, it was possible to conclude that it is necessary to avoid creating stomas located either laterally with respect to the rectus abdominis muscle or on the linea alba. Similarly, it was determined that the mechanical strength of laparoscopic incisions may be compromised if they are placed laterally. A new non-linear transversely isotropic hyperelastic model was also developed. This model, which is characterized exclusively by polynomial functions, enhances the accuracy of the simulations and provides a more accurate description of the mechanical properties. Moreover, it is important to highlight that all the research was performed exclusively using free and open source software.
