The production and utilization of fossil fuels have long been criticized for their wide-ranging impacts on the
environment, health, and social equity. Clean energy technologies are often seen as a solution to these issues,
promising reduced greenhouse gas emissions, diversification of the energy basket, and enhanced energy security.
However, the requirements and implications of transitioning to CETs have not been thoroughly evaluated until now.
This thesis addressed the gap by examining the comprehensive requirements and consequences of developing clean
energy infrastructures. It highlighted initial apprehensions regarding the impacts on human rights, inequalities, and
transition justice, underscoring the need for a balanced analysis of CET development.
This research estimated the requirements for widespread CET adoption, assessed realistic capabilities, and analyzed
the socio-economic, environmental, and technical impacts and aspects. It also evaluated the geopolitical ramifications
of shifting energy paradigms. It revealed, based on evidence rather than mere suggestions, that a crucial aspect of this
transition is understanding the equitable distribution of its benefits and burdens, ensuring that the clean energy system
is accessible and beneficial to all.
