    Resumen:
This dissertation, entitled 'The marble coverings in the territory of the Provincia Hispania Citerior Tarraconensis: materials, models and workshops through the study of sectilia and other wall and floor decorations from the 1st to the 5th centuries AD', examines the phenomenon of marble through architectural decoration within the chronological and geographical parameters given. Almost thirty years after the publication of Pérez Olmedo's monograph, advances in both archaeological and archaeometric research have led to new directions and interpretations. These advances have reshaped many of the theoretical and methodological concepts previously assumed to characterize these types of decorative revetments. They have made it necessary to re-evaluate such works by coordinating two main fields of analysis: the study of archaeological sources and the analysis of commercial relations. These new horizons have obliged us to create a new, comprehensive toolbox to develop a broad study that includes not only sectilia, but also other marble revetments that cannot be attributed to this technique, which also represent an important figure in the trade, work and use of marble for architectural ornamentation. Therefore, it has been formulated an updated approach to the ornamental marmor revetments in the Provincia Tarraconensis. In addition, it has been developed new methodologies to deal with complex contexts. It has thus been possible to obtain new and complete data on the temporal and spatial distribution, workshops and materials involved in the architectural ornamentation of this provincial territory. In short, what is presented here is a multidisciplinary approach to an element of Roman art history, based on a multifocal study. Although limited to a specific area, the intention is clear: to deepen knowledge of the use and diffusion of marble in the Iberian Peninsula, understanding it as a vehicle for the transmission of ideas, social status and political ties.
