    In a society characterized by its volatility and rapid changes, digital technology (DT) has established itself as an essential resource in the educational field. This became especially evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, when educational systems had to quickly adapt to distance learning and teaching modalities. In the context of higher education, virtual simulations (VS) were widely adopted, particularly in health sciences, as they allowed for practical activities to be carried out without the need for in-person attendance. However, to achieve effective integration of DT into educational processes, appropriate methodological support and pedagogical training for teaching staff are essential.The central objective of this doctoral thesis is to develop and validate guidelines for the design and implementation of Gamified Virtual Simulations (GVS) in higher education. First, it aims to analyze the use of VS at this educational level through a systematic review of literature from the past decade. Secondly, it seeks to create these guidelines based on the TPACK model through an iterative process involving experts in educational technology and nursing. The results include an analysis of the use of VS in higher education and the development and validation of two guidelines: one for GVS implementation and another for their design.
