    Abstract:
The chlor-alkali sector produces chlorine, sodium hydroxide, and hydrogen through brine electrolysis. In Europe, membrane technology is primarily used. This report presents information on the membrane electrolysis process employed by Ercros at the Vila-seca I plant. It describes the process stages, the operation of the electrolyzers, and the role of the membranes. Mass transfer and operating parameters are also analyzed. Finally, the anion content of the recovered caustic soda is examined using laboratory analytical techniques to correlate it with the condition of the membranes.
