Tourism in Spain as an economic sector: Evolution before and after the Covid-19 pandemic (2014-2024)

    Identifier:  TFG:10233
    Authors:  Vidilla Picón, Laura
    Abstract:
This study analyzes the evolution of Spanish tourism between 2014 and 2024, examining whether the post-pandemic recovery represents a structural transformation or a cyclical improvement. Based on official data from the INE and Eurostat, the results confirm that Spain has surpassed pre-pandemic levels in both volume and nominal value, recovering more rapidly than Italy and France. However, the increase in spending per tourist (+22.2%) is largely explained by accumulated inflation (~20%) rather than a genuine shift in the visitor profile. The central hypothesis is, therefore, partially rejected.
