Study of the presence of a group of organic compounds in the river Francoli

    Abstract:
    Abstract Quality parameters were studied, pH, temperature and conductivity, in situ at different points around the route of the Francolí river, from its source in l'Espluga de Francolí to its mouth in the port of Tarragona, the results show that the river it can be classified within the boundaries of good/moderate IPH. These values are related to human activities near the river, especially industrial activities. Moreover, they were determined simultaneously a group of five derivatives benzotriazole (BTR), four benzothiazole (BTS) and five benzenesulfonamide (BSA); compounds of high production and wide range of applications in various industrial processes and household products, along with high water solubility and resistance to biodegradation, based on previous studies. The method consisted of a solid phase extraction (SPE) with Oasis HLB followed by a cleaning step Florisil. All the analytes separation was achieved by HPLC coupled to mass spectrometer tandem operating mode multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) except the isomers within them. All compounds were detected in minimum one sampling point, except that MeSBT which presence was nodetectable in any sampling point, and total highest concentrations were found 0.55ppb, and 0.48 ppb 0,49ppb areas high industrial activity, moreover the found concentrations are low compared to previous studies of other rivers of Catalonia.
