Abstract:
Objetive: The aim of the project is to get to know the experiences of a sex worker from her perspective, to identify the coping strategies and means that jeopardize sex workers’ lives as well as to become aware of how their work affects their private life so as to reflect on their narratives. Method: The method used is Beck Depression Inventory formed of a 21-question semi-structured selfreport inventory taking the past, present and future perspective into consideration. The results have been transcribed into a Word document for further categorisation and analysis. Results: The results found show that the participants practice coping methods based on cognitive and emotional avoidance due to the thoughts, feelings and emotions that arise from their job. They suffer from anxiety because, as they report, no one from their social and familiar environments knows about their work. On the other hand, they believe their job is relevant because lots of their clients suffer from loneliness, worries and also, their sexual condition does not allow them to express themselves freely so they do it as a mean of relief. Women empowerment has been found to cope with work and service conditions. Conclusions: To conclude with, our goal has been achieved as our main issue was to become aware of the sexual workers daily life and how their job affects their private lives as well as focusing on the coping mechanisms used by each of the participants.
