    Abstract:
Intellectual disability originates before the age of 18 and is characterized by having both intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior. It is a complex phenomenon that reflects the interaction between the people who suffer and the characteristics of the society in which they live. The majority of people with intellectual disabilities maintain a sedentary lifestyle, few are those who perform some type of physical activity. The objective of this work is to identify the benefits of physical activity in people with intellectual disabilities. The methodology is a bibliographic review in databases such as Cinahl, Pubmed, Dialnet and Scielo, in which 15 scientific articles dealing with the subject of work have been selected. The results show the realization of physical activity improves the health and social relationships of people with intellectual disabilities, although there are barriers that prevent their participation. We conclude that the realization of physical activity in people with intellectual disabilities is beneficial both physically and psychosocially, even so are the various objects that hinder the participation of these in physical activity programs.
